About Us

Welcome to a community of church keyboardists!

Recently launched in January of 2020, my vision is to foster community among church keyboardists. Content is provided that will equip piano players for keyboarding, strengthen the skills of current keyboard players, and give encouragement to learn and try new things. As articles and information appear, please comment and share your experiences and knowledge. I’d also love for you to join us on social media.

The What

Keyboarding Church is a result of years of conversations with other church keyboardists and a general feeling of isolation, despite the existence of a keyboard in many churches across the nation. Many (I’d argue most) churches only have 1 piano player. And even that is not always the case! In churches with more than 1 player, they sometimes serve at different times in different services or functions. Or maybe they just don’t have much time with each other to discuss music. It’s time to replace that isolation with support, encouragement, and resources to achieve your best potential! This site is a connecting point and a tool to help you.

The Why

My own experience includes hours upon hours of self-teaching, learning, frustrations, and scrounging around for keyboarding resources. On the few occassions I have been able to talk with fellow keyboard players, similar stories were told. They were taught piano but were then left to fend for themselves when it came to keyboard instruction. The truth is piano instructors are focused on piano and few branch into keyboarding. Beyond that, even fewer teach about live performance, leading worship, and playing with a band. Keyboarding Church exists to fill those gaps.

The How

This site will equip individuals for playing keyboards in a worship setting and beyond through instructional blog posts, gear reviews, light-hearted memes, guest writers, interviews, graphics, infographics, videos, links to other resources, and more! Most importantly, it will CONNECT you with other people on a similar journey.

The Who

If any of the following are true:

  • You are classically trained in piano
  • You have been a church pianist
  • You aren’t sure how to play in/with a band
  • Alfred lesson books and Beethoven left you unprepared for worship
  • A wave of panic sets in every time the pastor calls for an impromptu song at the end of the service
  • You have never touched a keyboard before
  • You are just starting your keyboarding journey or are wanting to grow in your abilities
  • You want to be part of a growing community of church keyboardists

This site is for you!
